The trailer of Bloody Daddy was launched today at an event in Mumbai. Starring Shahid Kapoor, the action entertainer will be out on Jio Cinema and will be available for viewing for free. The teaser was launched last month and ever since, many have been commenting on social media that a film of this scale should have released in cinemas. Shahid Kapoor spoke about this aspect at the trailer launch.

Shahid Kapoor said, “When the teaser came out, I saw a lot of comments asking why aren’t we putting it out in the theatres. Trust me, we were all tempted! However, Bloody Daddy is designed for OTT. It was meant to be for that kind of a platform. Of course, there’s no bigger platform than Jio.”

Shahid Kapoor continued, “Watching content at the comfort of your house, pausing it whenever you want, stopping it, having your meal etc makes for a very comfortable experience. Going to the theatre to watch a film, meanwhile, is like an event experience where you go out with your family, have dinner, go to the mall and enjoy the day out. Both have their place. So, I don’t see theatre and OTT colliding into each other. Instead, they’ll coexist. We need to adapt and decide which content we need to take on which platform or screen size. A lot of people wanted this film out in cinemas. A lot of theatre exhibitors called and talked to us about it. But we stuck to what we truly, truly envisioned for this film, that is, creating a big screen experience for the OTT platform.”

Shahid Kapoor further stated, “This is also happening internationally. If you see a film like The Irishman (2019). When stalwarts like Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro etc can recognize that its time to make that shift, we the younger lot, too, need to wake up to this change.”

Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, Bloody Daddy will release on June 9.
