MANILA, Philippines—Noli James Maquilan stamped his class and crushed Perjohn Alipio in the eighth round in the main event of Manny Pacquiao Presents Blow-By-Blow on Friday night.
Maquilan claimed the Philippine Boxing Federation bantamweight title at Serbisyong Bayan Park in Batasan Hills, Quezon City.
Maquilan made Alipio feel his power early with a first-round knockdown after connecting on a right to the jaw.
But despite tasting the canvas, Alipio showed some fight in him and even had his moments up until the fifth round where Maquilan began to take total control of the bout.
Maquilan then unleashed a hook to the ribcage, putting Alipio down for good.
“That was a show of force by Maquilan,” said Pacquiao.
The victory hiked Maquilan’s record to 7-1 with 4 knockouts while Alipio fell to 9-4-1 with 4 KOs.
“There’s no stopping us from fulfilling our commitment to the Filipino boxers,” said Pacquiao, the only eight-division champion in the sport.
Pacquiao is looking forward to more events in Matro Manila and even in the provinces, including Narvacan, Ilocos Sur in early August.
