Blow for Hibernian as Harry McKirdy ruled out for up to six months

Hibernian have announced that Harry McKirdy has been ruled out for “a significant amount of time” and will require surgery for an unspecified issue.

The forward returned to pre-season training with his team-mates and went through the standard scans and tests ahead of the new season, but medical staff identified a problem that needed attention.

Following further tests, the club say McKirdy will require surgery but have not given further detail, other than to say that he will miss a significant part of the new season.

Following the news that the versatile attacker will be out for four to six months, Hibernian manager Lee Johnson said the unexpected news was a blow to the player and the club.

“This has come as a real shock for us all and has been a tough few days for Harry as we came to the bottom of what the scans meant,” he said.

“We’re all with him, have to rally around him and give him as much support as possible.

“We have a first-class medical department that will look after him and make sure he comes back fit and healthy.”

The club’s medical team are confident that McKirdy will return to full fitness following his rehabilitation period.
