BMW has announced its next-generation head-up display (HUD) will be featured in all Neue Klasse models from 2025.

The brand refers to its upcoming HUD as BMW Panoramic Vision and says the technology will go into production alongside its first Neue Klasse models.

In what BMW says is a first for carmakers, the system will project information across the entire width of the windscreen.

The customisable HUD allows drivers to decide what information is displayed in their field of vision, and what information other occupants will be able to view.

Earlier this year BMW revealed its i Vision Dee EV concept at CES in Las Vegas. The concept features a panoramic display projected onto the windscreen.

BMW has released an updated photo of its ‘Panoramic Vision’ system which appears to combine slim in-cabin display screens with a widescreen head-up display. The HUD appears to be 3D, projecting from the front of the dashboard.

The technology is part of the brand’s vision to deliver an “eyes on the road, hands on the wheel” user experience for its drivers as infotainment systems grow more complex.

The brand has a strong focus on its upcoming Neue Klasse models, which will be built on a new architecture.

BMW has previously said its range of Neue Klasse vehicles will be fitted with new cylindrical lithium-ion battery cells from around 2025.

Compared to its current battery technology, this cylinder cell technology is claimed to improve energy density by more than 20 per cent, charging speed by up to 30 per cent, and range by 30 per cent.

At the 2023 BMW Annual Conference Oliver Zipse, chairman of the board of management for BMW AG said that Neue Klasse vehicles are expected to go into production in the second half of 2025.

BMW will produced the models at a range of its factories, with production to begin at a dedicated plan in Debrecen, Hungary.

The carmaker is already in the stages of transforming its historic Munich factory, and its San Luis Potosi factory in Mexico, to be able to produce the upcoming New Klasse models.

It’s still a little while yet until the brand releases these vehicles, however. BMW has teased the fact there will be six Neue Klasse models in the first 24 months of the platform’s life.

The first models will be an SUV, likely in the mould of the current X3, as well as a sedan within the 3 Series segment.
