U.S. sales of the XM tallied 409 in the first quarter. It is the first standalone vehicle from the M performance brand since the M1 launched five decades ago.
BMW said the XM Label Red will debut at the Shanghai auto show that starts this week, with only 500 to be produced at its factory in Spartanburg, S.C. The U.S., China and Middle East are expected to be key markets for what BMW is billing as a more exclusive and extravagant XM.
It is distinguished by red exterior trim around the windows, wheels, brakes and BMW’s pair of famed octagonal kidneys, as well as red interior stitching, seating surfaces, steering wheel, dashboard and vents.
Dealers will start taking orders April 28, BMW said, with pricing to be announced later.
