A bodybuilding champion has died after drowing in a lake while on a fishing trip in Romania. Catalin Stefanescu, 28, was found 3ft deep in the water in Dambovita County on Sunday, according to local news outlet Targoviste News.
A former national bodybuilding champion in the 80 kg weight category, Mr Stefanescu was reportedly found unconscious by a friend who had joined him on the fishing trip on Lazuri lake.
The pal had gone home before returning to the water where he found Mr Stefanescu, according to Targoviste News.
Emergency services were called to the lake where the sports fanatic was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tributes have been paid to the fitness trainer who was married with a daughter.
One person, quoted by Targoviste News, said: “Our little one, kind and gentle, you tore our souls apart. We were waiting to say Happy Birthday in a week [and] now we mourn you. Your sun set too early.”
Another wrote in tribute: “Smooth road to Heaven, champion. You were and will remain a legend in our souls.”
A third wrote: RIP. God rest in peace my good coach! I will never forget you.
“You left too soon leaving behind only sadness and pain.”
