Odell Beckham Jr. was escorted off a flight from Miami to Los Angeles prior to takeoff last Thanksgiving weekend. A recently surfaced video shows what occurred aboard the plane.
In bodycam footage obtained by WPLG Local 10, it appears Beckham was awoken from a deep slumber by authorities who boarded the flight. He was asked a few questions, which included if he knew where he was, and officers came away satisfied with his responses.
Even though authorities didn’t see anything that would considered grounds for his removal, they left the decision up to the flight attendants, who appeared adamant that he needed to leave.
After everyone was asked to deplane, a passenger seemingly said something to OBJ, which was met with an aggrieved response from the NFL star. “That shit don’t mean nothing to me. … You gonna wait 40 minutes and I’mma be on a private plane home,” he said.
In a report from the Miami-Dade Police Department, Beckham appeared to be “coming in and out of consciousness” when the flight crew attempted to wake him to fasten his seat belt. OBJ was asked to leave out of concern that his condition would worsen over the course of the five-hour flight.
Beckham’s attorney Daniel Davilier explained his client is accustomed to sleeping with a blanket over his head for long flights.
“He was [awakened] and told that the plane was back at the gate and that he needed to get off the plane because he did not put his seatbelt on when asked,” Davilier wrote. “He responded that he was asleep, and that he would put his seatbelt on at that time. He was informed that it was too late, and that either he would have to get off the plane or everyone would have to deplane.”
