There’s a new app on the horizon that could bring some audible thrills to the ears of Ford Mustang Mach-E owners. Borla Exhaust used the platform that is SEMA 2022 to showcase a new bit of tech that gives a variety of soundtracks to the electric SUV.

It’s called the “Active Performance Sound” system, and its job is to project realistic engine notes from normally silent vehicles in response to pedal action. Essentially, Borla went out and recorded a bunch of muscle cars accelerating, red-lining, popping, and growling, and then programmed it all into an app that communicates with an amplifier and digital processor to sync with the pedal and make it sound like there’s a gas-spitting engine under the hood, and not just a bunch of storage space.

The video in the Tweet below gives a quick rundown of how it works, showing how you can switch the sound to that of a Mustang GT500, a Chevrolet Corvette, a Camaro, and more, all with a swipe.

Apparently, Shelby American specially requested Borla to take up the challenge of adding some audible excitement to the Mach-E.

Borla says its fancy noisemaker isn’t ready to sell just yet, but will be available later this year for the Mach-E, followed by the F-150 Lightning and eventually other EVs. The price for the program and installation has not been revealed.
