Brandon Williams ‘may be frozen out by Ten Hag’ after disappointing Man Utd

Manchester United left-back Brandon Williams could be frozen out by Erik ten Hag following his recent comments on social media in light of Manchester City’s treble. The Red Devils academy graduate appeared to launch an attack on Rio Ferdinand after the former United defender labelled Pep Guardiola’s side “immortal” following their Champions League triumph over Inter Milan in Istanbul.

Amid a string of messages, Williams wrote: “@rioferdy5 Bet you don’t congratulate if you was player keep the same morals. too face is boring.”

He also added: “You don’t praise simple as. Fakessssssssss for [money emoji].”

According to ESPN, United are not happy with their player’s antics and his comments have not gone down well internally at Old Trafford.

Although the club refused to comment on the incident, inside sources have relayed that the comments are “not welcomed”.

United were the first English side to ever win the treble back in 1999 when they won the Champions League in stoppage-time in Barcelona with a last-gasp 2-1 victory over Bayern Munich at the Nou Camp.

Williams seemingly made reference to that fact when he also wrote: “Nobody wants a sloppy seconds.”

The young defender, who broke into the United first-team picture under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, made just one senior appearance for the club this season after suffering an injury-hit campaign.

But now there are suggestions within the media that he could be frozen out following the ordeal as United are keen to minimise off-field distractions moving forward.

The 22-year-old had looked set for a bright future at Old Trafford but now he seems likely to be sold having struggled to make progress.

His current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2024 although United do have an option to trigger a 12-month extension.

Williams’ recent outburst is not the first time he has been outspoken on his social media channels.

During his loan spell at Norwich City last season, the defender was subjected to abuse from Canaries supporters following a 4-0 defeat to West Ham.

It’s alleged that he was followed home from the game by angry supporters, prompting him to respond on Instagram.

He uploaded a picture of his dog, writing: “For the people that followed me, he’s always awake.”

Williams later added a picture of his middle finger, writing: “What a beautiful day easy up Norwich City FC.”

Norwich were set to be investigating the posts internally but Williams’ representatives later denied that was the case before hitting out at the supporters that were causing their client distress.

“There is no club investigation into Brandon,” they said last season. “This conduct by a small number of fans is unacceptable. The vast majority of fans have been overwhelmingly supportive during Brandon’s loan time at Norwich.”
