Braves manager Brian Snitker let his emotions get ahead of him.
During the second inning of Atlanta’s 10-3 win over the Kansas City Royals on Friday, Snitker sounded off on umpires by disagreeing about where the officials placed Atlanta runners on base following a successful challenge.
As a result of the manager’s anger, umpires ejected Snitker.
With Ronald Acuna on first base, Atlanta’s Matt Olson hit a ball toward the left field wall that was initially ruled a foul ball by umpires.
The 67-year-old manager, though, challenged the call, saying that the ball hit the line.
The ball was later called fair, with Acuna being moved to second base and Olson to first.
But Snitker was still unsatisfied, saying that Acuna, one of the quickest players in the majors, would’ve been at third if the ball was initially ruled fair.
“They got the call right, but I don’t think they placed the runners in the right spot,” Snitker said after Friday’s game. You have one of the fastest guys in Major League Baseball at first and you’re going to put him at second base on a ball down the line off the wall. I would have been OK if they would have scored him. That’s judgment and I didn’t agree with it.”
Snitker exited the dugout and chatted with umpires before getting more animated and flailing his arms.
He was then tossed out – when the Braves were leading 5-1.
Friday’s game gave Atlanta their first win of a three-game series against the Royals.
The Braves, also trounced the Royals, 9-3, on Saturday, are off to a strong start with an NL East-leading 11-4 record.
