Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid has been named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player for the 2022-23 season.
Embiid, a first-time winner, earned the honor over fellow finalists Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Jokic had won the previous two MVP awards and Giannis took home the distinction in 2019 and 2020.

Embiid won the league scoring title for the second year in a row, averaging a career-high 33.1 points per game. He also added 10.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.7 blocks per appearance.
Embiid followed his stellar regular season up with 60 points, 34 rebounds and 12 assists in the first three games of the 76ers’ first-round playoff series against the Brooklyn Nets.
However, the 7-foot superstar has not played since spraining his LCL in the Game 3 win over the Nets. He missed Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals last night and is doubtful to play in Game 2 tomorrow.
