Andrew Marchand of the New York Post said ESPN was going to lay off a handful of big names this Friday. Well, he wasn’t kidding.
Moments ago, Marchand reported that NBA broadcaster Jeff Van Gundy has been let go.
Van Gundy, 61, has been with ESPN for 16 years. He created a fun dynamic on the air with Mike Breen and Mark Jackson.
According to New York Post’s report, Van Gundy was making millions per year.

ESPN is expected to replace Van Gundy for its No. 1 broadcast team.
Doris Burke, J.J. Redick and Richard Jefferson have been mentioned as internal options to replace Van Gundy. Former 76ers coach Doc Rivers, meanwhile, could be an outside-the-box candidate for ESPN.
Either way, it’s somewhat upsetting to see Van Gundy let go. His charisma was always on full display each broadcast.
Van Gundy has not yet released a statement on his departure from ESPN.
