Kevin Love has decided on a team for the rest of the NBA season.
Love, 34, who agreed to a contract buyout with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the last few days, will sign with the Miami Heat, his agent told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
“Love’s expectation is that he can play a sizable role in the Heat’s frontcourt rotation as they push into the Eastern Conference playoffs,” Wojnarowski tweeted. “Love talked with the Sixers too.”
Love had not played for the Cavs since January 24 before agreeing to buyout terms. In 41 games this season, the five-time All-Star averaged 8.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest, shooting 38.9% from the field, 35.4% from three-point range and 88.9% at the free-throw line.
Currently, the Miami Heat are 32-27 and in seventh place in the Eastern Conference. Miami is a half-game behind the New York Knicks for sixth place and only 2.5 games back of the fifth-place Brooklyn Nets.
The top six teams in each conference are automatically seeded in the playoff bracket, with teams finishing 7th-through-10th battling for the final two spots in the play-in round.
