According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the NBA has denied the Mavericks’ protest.
Mavericks owner Mark Cuban filed the protest in response to what he believes was a missed call during the team’s March 22 game against the Warriors.
Late in the third quarter of that game, the Warriors got an uncontested layup after confusion on the court led to the Mavericks not knowing which team was in possession of the ball.
When the basket was scored, both teams were on opposite ends of the court. The Mavericks walked down to the other basket after they believed they had possession of the ball. Shortly thereafter, the referee handed the ball to Golden State, who inbounded and scored an easy basket.
The gaffe would prove to be a vital one, as the Warriors would go on to win the game by only two points.
Cuban would later concede that the basket only had a 4.2% chance of affecting the outcome of the game, but he still decided to protest the outcome.
The loss is a hard one to take, since the Mavericks need every win they can get as they try to get back in the West playoff picture.
