The month is almost over, but did you know that the month of October is counted as international Breast Cancer Awareness Month?

Here’s what you should know about this very important awareness event in October.

October: Breast Cancer Awareness Month

According to BreastCancer.org, October is breast cancer awareness month.

The month is a time to consider people who have gone into remission, but also a good time to focus on your own health. This type of cancer is one of the leading causes of doctors’ visits for women, and the statistics can also affect men.

Men can get this type of cancer, too.

Early diagnosis is considered the best course of action. Most cases of breast cancer are successfully treated into remission, if diagnosed early enough.

Regular “checks” are advised to keep your body in good health.

Signs and symptoms (for men and women)

An examination is important at least once every few weeks to months, and this counts as useful and important for men AND women. Men can get diagnosed with breast cancer too, even though men aren’t known for their breasts, they still have tissues that can become affected.

The National Foundation advises netizens to check often for signs and symptoms.

Lumps, pain and/or tenderness, and discharge from the nipple can indicate that you should visit a doctor for further testing. Any changes in the consistency or feeling of the tissues could mean that there is something wrong.
