The Leicester City boss is a leading contender for the hotseat at the Theatre of Dreams, with United listing Rodgers alongside Mauricio Pochettino as their favoured candidates to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
United have announced their intention to appoint an interim manager until the end of the season but should one of their shortlisted targets be available now they’d make a long-term appointment.
But Rodgers has appeared to rule himself out of the running for the job by claiming that the speculation is ‘not real’.
Asked about United’s apparent interest, Rodgers said: ‘I don’t take it as anything. It’s not real. There’s always gossip and that will be there until they appoint a full-time manager.
‘My commitment is to here. The culture here is about the development of the players, and that’s where I see it, even moreso in this period.
‘I respect you guys have stories to do and to create a narrative, but that doesn’t include me.’
United have drawn up a shortlist of candidates to become interim manager for the rest of the campaign.
Ernesto Valverde, Lucien Favre and Rudi Garcia are all in contention, whilst the prospect of Michael Carrick remaining in charge has not been ruled out.
