Is East Contra Costa County in the midst of a food renaissance? Our tummies are grumbling yes.
Restaurants like Bistro Punahele Tonnelier in Oakley and Smith’s Landing Seafood Grill in Antioch have been providing memorable dining experiences for the past four or five years. Now, there is a notable foodie refresh afoot in nearby Brentwood. In 2019, Hop Asylum brought a wide range of rare craft beers and pairable paninis to the area when it opened in Empire Crossing.
And so far this year, Brentwood has welcomed three new destinations, including Yum Cha Boba & More, which brought its fruit smoothies and boba milk teas to W. Country Club Drive in March. While not a restaurant, Salt & Fig Marketplace, a gourmet food and kitchen specialty shop, has been drawing fans for local honey, teas and olive oils since it opened in April.
And, this month, Guadalajara Taqueria, which started in Antioch, has been slinging quesabirria in Brentwood since Cinco de Mayo. Here are four more restaurants coming soon to Brentwood.
Station 16 Seafood & Bar: A firefighter and foodie got together and opened a beloved seafood restaurant in Sacramento. Now, they’re expanding to the Bay Area, bringing the full oceanic experience — raw bar, street tacos, small plates, pastas and sizzling skillets — to The Streets of Brentwood shopping center. Don’t miss the lobster roll, cioppino and craft cocktails. Details: 2505 Sand Creek Road, Suite 120, Brentwood; https://station16restaurant.com.
Jollibee: This Philippines-based fast food joint is best known for juicy bone-in fried chicken and other Filipino-style comfort foods, like spaghetti topped with sweet sauce and hot dog, ham or ground meat, and palabok, a traditional noodle dish with shrimp, pork and garlic sauce. Also look for tenders, burgers and chicken buckets. Details: 6371 Lone Tree Way, Brentwood; www.jollibeefoods.com
The Cheese Steak Shop: Fans of the Philly classic will flock to what will be the 20th Bay Area location of this shop that started in San Francisco. Newbies, look for 10 types of cheese steak sammies, like The Gilroy, with whole cloves of roasted garlic, and The Hoagie, with lettuce, tomato and mayo. Sides include onion rings and Philly cheese fries (of course). Details: 5611 Lone Tree Way, Suite 150, Brentwood; www.cheesesteakshop.com.
Bonchon Korean Fried Chicken: When it opens next to The Cheese Steak Shop, this expanding favorite will bring dine-in, takeout and delivery competition for Jollibee. In addition to fried wings, thighs and drumsticks, they offer sliders, tacos, pork buns and Korean favorites from japchae and bibimbap to udon and bulgogi. Don’t miss tteokbokki, rice cakes simmered in spicy broth with fish cakes. Details: 5611 Lone Tree Way, Suite 160, Brentwood. https://bonchon.com
