Zion Williamson has dealt with injury-related adversity for most of his NBA career, leading some to believe that the New Orleans Pelicans are looking to move on from him.
Recent reports indicate that the team shopped Williamson in trade talks with teams near the top of next month’s draft, a move that may have fractured his relationship with the organization.
According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, Williamson’s relationship with the Pelicans is nearly non-existent.
Zion Williamson doesn’t have a relationship with the Pelicans’ organization ????
“There is no relationship between Zion and the organization. And minimal relationship between Zion and his teammates, from what I understand.”

“There is no relationship between Zion and the organization,” Windhorst said of the former No. 1 overall pick.
“And minimal relationship between Zion and his teammates, from what I understand.”
Given that the Pelicans signed Williamson to an extension that could be worth more than $200 million, it’s a fairly concerning sign to see that he’s allegedly detached from the rest of the organization.
The Pelicans have a young roster with a lot of talented players, if Williamson is healthy, they project as one of the best teams in the Western conference.
Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case in his career. Williamson has only played in 114 total games over four seasons, including 29 games in 2022-23.
The Pelicans may have only shopped Williamson to gauge interest from teams with higher draft picks, but if the move alienated Williamson from the ream, it may have done more harm than good.
