KKR crashed out of the IPL 2023 in the group stage for the second time in a row, which has created a massive uproar among fans. The two-time IPL champions have not lifted the trophy since 2014, and have made only one appearance in the final which came in 2021.
Gautam Gambhir is a much respected and loved figure in Kolkata. The southpaw joined KKR in 2011 post-Sourav Ganguly era and changed the dynamics of the franchise. In his seven seasons at the club, KKR won two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014.
KKR haven’t won an IPL since Gambhir departed. The former India player left KKR in 2018 and after a brief stint with Delhi Capitals, hung his boots as a player. He now works as a mentor for Lucknow Super Giants.
And under his guidance, LSG have qualified for two IPL playoffs in a row. LSG booked their berth in the playoffs this season after a win over KKR, which also saw the Kolkata side eliminated from the tournament. And after that, the fans have demanded Gambhir be appointed by the Knight Riders.
