A Brit has been killed in a brutal knife attack outside a home in Thailand.

The man was reportedly struck in the neck with a sickle-shaped knife in the Muang district of Kanchanaburi, in the south west, during the early hours of Saturday.

Another Brit was also left seriously injured in the incident and remains in hospital.

Both Brits were listening to music and drinking at a table past 3am when they were attacked, local media reports.

It is thought an argument may have erupted over the volume of the music, police say.

Officers found the deceased Brit, believed to be from Somerset, lying face down in a pool of blood with knife wounds to his neck.

The second man, reportedly from Nuneaton, was found seriously injured and taken to Paholpolpayuhasena Hospital.

A Thai man, 23, was later arrested at 8.49am after hiding in the room of a relative opposite where the attack took place, the Bangkok Post reports.

He has since been charged with murder and attempted murder, the publication says.

The suspect is being held at the Muang district police station for further interrogation.

A witness in the area, believed to be a relative of the deceased Brit’s girlfriend, told police he was woken up by loud noises during the early hours of Saturday.

He claims he then went to investigate and found the two Brits badly injured.

A sickle and a pair of slippers believed to be belonging to the attacker could be seen at the scene, police said.

A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesman said: “We are contact with the Royal Thai Police following the death of one British man and the hospitalisation of another in Thailand and are ready to provide consular support.”
