For years he has topped the lists of Britain’s most eligible bachelors.
But the Duke of Westminster, Hugh Grosvenor, declared himself officially off the market yesterday when he announced his engagement.
The 32-year-old – who became Britain’s youngest billionaire when he inherited his father’s title and property empire at age 25 – proposed to his girlfriend Olivia Henson at his 11,000-acre family estate, Eaton Hall in Cheshire.
The couple, who met through friends, have been together for two years.
Known to friends as ‘Hughie’, the duke is the King’s godson and his late father Gerald was one of Charles’s oldest friends.
A friend of both Prince William and Prince Harry, he is also Prince George’s godfather.
The Grosvenor family were ranked the 12th wealthiest in Britain in last year’s Sunday Times Rich List, with an estimated fortune of more than $18 billion (AUD).
Their business, Grosvenor, owns Park Lane and a vast swathe of Mayfair and Belgravia in Central London, plus property around the world.
Miss Henson, 30, is an account manager with the London-based food firm Belazu.
She was educated at Dragon School, a preparatory school in Oxford, and Marlborough College in Wiltshire, where alumni include the Princess of Wales and Princess Eugenie.
She went on to study Hispanic Studies and Italian at Trinity College in Dublin and speaks both Spanish and Italian.
Unusually for an aristocratic family, the duke and his sisters were not sent to boarding schools and attended a state primary school in The Wirral, near their family home.
The duke later studied countryside management at Newcastle University.
For his 21st birthday, his father spent an astonishing $9 million (AUD) on a lavish party at Eaton Hall, with performances from comedian Michael McIntyre and hip hop duo Rizzle Kicks.
Now 7th Duke of Westminster, Hugh chairs Grosvenor and the Westminster Foundation charity, which supports vulnerable children and young people.
During the pandemic, he donated $23 million (AUD) to NHS Charities Together and other charities.
The duke’s older sister Lady Tamara, 43, is married to Prince William’s friend Edward van Cutsem; another sister, Lady Edwina, 41, is married to TV presenter Dan Snow.
Their younger sister Lady Viola, 30, is married to Dragoons Guards officer Angus Roberts.
