British TV host Holly Willoughby has reportedly been left blindsided by her co-host Phillip Schofield after he broke his silence about rumours of an explosive feud between the two.
This Morning presenter Schofield released a statement admitting times had been hard recently but claimed there has been no fallout between the hosts.
“The last few weeks haven’t been easy for either of us. As I have said before, Holly is my rock,” Schofield told a media outlet.
“We’re the best of friends — as always, she is an incredible support on screen, behind the scenes and on the phone. Holly has always been there for me, through thick and thin. And I’ve been there for her.”
Willoughby reportedly had no knowledge or advance warning her co-star was planning on releasing the statement.
ITV bosses were said to be in crisis mode amid reports of a relationship breakdown between the co-hosts following a string of controversies that engulfed the show.
Late last year Schofield came under fire after being accused of jumping the queue at Queen Elizabeth’s lying in state. He was thrust back into the spotlight again last month after his brother was convicted of sexually abusing a child.
In 2020, Schofield, who had been married to his wife for 27 years, made headlines when he revealed he was gay.
“I am gay,” Schofield, one of broadcaster ITV’s biggest stars, said in a post on Instagram.
“This is something that has caused many heartbreaking conversations at home.”
“This decision is essential for me and essential for my head. Every person I tell, it gets a little lighter and a little lighter.”
