Britney Spears Announced Her Pregnancy With a Candid Post About Perinatal Depression

It looks like pregnancy is in the air this spring because Britney Spears announced that a third child is on the way for her. The pop icon shared the exciting news via an Instagram post on April 11, and her millions of fans rushed to the comments to congratulate her. In her caption, she explained how she noticed she had gained some weight after a vacation to Maui and didn’t think anything of it until she took a pregnancy test. She noted that since then, her stomach has been growing, which made her wonder if she could possibly be carrying twins.

She also got candid about her experience with perinatal depression. More people are probably familiar with postpartum depression, but perinatal depression encompasses that and “depression that begins during pregnancy (called prenatal depression),” according to the National Institute of Mental Health. Spears wrote about how it was “absolutely horrible” dealing with perinatal depression during her previous pregnancies, especially because many women didn’t talk about it openly back then.

“Some people considered it dangerous if a woman complained like that with a baby inside her, but now women talk about it every day,” the caption reads. “Thank Jesus we don’t have to keep that pain a reserved proper secret.” But she is staying hopeful and shared that she will be doing yoga every day to help with any depression she may experience.
