The actor, who 41-year-old Britney wed in June last year, appeared to take aim at a new documentary about his spouse and her conservatorship.
Sam, 29, insisted in a social media video published over the weekend that although he ‘didn’t want to speak on his wife’s behalf’, he found it ‘absolutely disgusting’ that people were telling mum-of-two Britney’s story ‘like it was theirs’.
He said in full: ‘The last thing I want to do is speak on my wife’s behalf, I will never do that. I respect her privacy, that’s why I don’t talk as much.’
Sam went on: ‘I found it absolutely disgusting for the people that were in her life at the time when she didn’t have a voice, they went and told her story like it was theirs. It was absolutely disgusting.’
He continued: ‘How are you gonna take the most influential person of our generation, the princess of pop, America’s sweetheart, and put her in prison, where her father tells her what to do, what water to drink, who to see, and use her as a money-making machine and then all of a sudden, after 15 years, when she’s free after all [that] gaslighting and all those things that went down, now you’re gonna put her under a microscope and tell her story?’
The budding star concluded: ‘No. That’s also disgusting, so don’t do that.’
It’s thought Sam was referring to TMZ’s documentary, titled TMZ Investigates: Britney Spears: The Price of Freedom, which aired last night.
The release of Sam’s social media video comes hot on the heels of rumours that his and pop icon Britney’s marriage was ‘on the rocks’, however, his comment about ‘not talking [about his wife] much because he respects her privacy’ seems to clear up whisperings their relationship is frayed.
What’s more, on Monday, Britney posted a life update on Instagram in which she revealed she was redecorating her house and had been given ‘free rein’ by her husband, suggesting all is well in their marriage.
Metro.co.uk has reached out to Sam’s reps and TMZ for comment.
