WNBA star Brittney Griner will reportedly no be accompanying her teammates on their upcoming road trip to the midwest.
Per the team, Griner has been scratched from Phoenix’s next two games in order to prioritize her mental health:
Mercury center Brittney Griner will not travel with the team on its upcoming two-game road trip to Chicago and Indiana (July 30-August 1) to focus on her mental health. The Mercury fully support Brittney and we will continue to work together on a timeline for her return.

Through 20 games in her first season back after being detained in Russia, Griner is averaging a team-high 18.2 points and 6.7 rebounds to go along with two assists and 1.7 blocks.
Unfortunately, that success hasn’t led to many wins thus far, as the Mercury sit at 6-17 and in the 10th spot in the standings.
As anyone could imagine after going through what she went through, Griner’s mental health took a toll as she sat in a Russian jail cell for nearly 10 months. Hopefully, the time away allows her to get a better handle on whatever she’s going through.
