Brittney Griner returned to the United States with a new lease on life.
In December, the WNBA superstar was finally returned to her home country after nearly 10 months of wrongful imprisonment in Russia. After her arrest and detainment in Moscow, she was eventually moved to a prison labor camp with brutal conditions and almost zero contact with her family.
Now that she’s home safely, Griner isn’t taking anything for granted.
“Definitely made me appreciate it more,” she said of her experience during a press conference on Wednesday. “You see life clearer now, the little things don’t matter.”
I asked Brittney Griner after dealing with the circumstances she dealt with, how has it made BG look at the game of basketball or life differently.

Griner’s gratitude has extended to her play on the court. After missing the entirety of this past WNBA season, the Phoenix Mercury center is off to an excellent start in this year’s campaign. Through her first five games, she’s averaging 22.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per contest.
Griner and the Mercury (1-4) will face off against the Dallas Wings on Friday night.
