Brittney Griner announced this week that she will not play basketball abroad moving forward, unless it’s for her country in the Olympics.
The WNBA star played in Russia to supplement her income. However, she was imprisoned for nearly a year on drug charges.
Now that Griner has returned home, she’s announced that she won’t be playing overseas again.
Griner made good money in Russia, though. She was paid $1 million/year by her Russian team.
“It’s no wonder Griner went over to Russia, where she made over $1 million per season while playing there—more than quadruple her salary in the WNBA, according to AP,” Fortune reported.
Griner is paid less than a quarter of a million dollars per year in the WNBA.
She will be making less money moving forward, but she’ll almost surely be more at peace.
