Kell Brook has thanked the person who leaked a video of him snorting white powder inside his home last year. Brook admits he was in a very dark place and that the leak ‘lifted a weight off his shoulders’.

The clip, which was published by The Sun, quickly made the rounds on social media and was soon trending worldwide. One witness told the publication: “He had a bit of a gathering at his house where people were drinking spirits and smoking. He was snorting white powder.”

Although his manager Terry Thompson insisted it was “a joke”, at the time. Brook has since come out and apologised for his actions and says he is now “on the mend”. Many criticised the person responsible for leaking the private video, but Brook is thankful for the wake-up call.

“I was in very dark places for a long time. As a fighter, I keep things to myself, the struggles I’ve had to deal with. I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders,” he told Boxing King Media.

“The guy who leaked it, one day I’ll actually thank him. Because I think God did this for a reason. Now I’m on the up and I’m feeling amazing. I’m not late, I’m sticking to my schedule – the list goes on. Without going too much into it, I’m on the mend.”

This comes after Brook delivered a heartfelt apology to his fans. Taking to Twitter, he wrote: “I messed up, I hold my hands up & want to apologise to my family gym friends & fans It’s no secret that I struggle with mental health & I’m finding retirement really hard. I’m actively seeking the help I need to get me on the right path. Again, i apologise for the hurt I’ve caused.

Brook retired from professional boxing in May of last year following a win over fierce rival Amir Khan but looks set to be returning to the ring. The former world champion is among those in consideration for Conor Benn’s comeback fight in June and has recently been seen back in training at the famous Ingle Boxing Gym in Sheffield.
