Brooklyn Nets ABANDON hiring suspended Celtics coach Ime Udoka to replace Steve Nash – and name interim Jacque Vaughn as head coach instead
The Nets have named Jacque Vaughn as head coach Wednesday following the firing of Steve Nash, after he served in the role for the previous four games on an interim basis.
Reports last week from both The Athletic and ESPN said the Nets were close to officially appointing suspended Celtics coach Ime Udoka to replace Nash.
Udoka is currently serving a team-issued, season-long suspension for having an alleged intimate relationship with a female team staffer.
Brooklyn have seemingly abandoned that plan now, however, and turn the reins over to Vaughn, who served as an assistant under Nash, and also was the team’s interim coach after the team fired Kenny Atkinson in 2020.
The Nets went 2-2 in the four previous games this season that Vaughn coached on an interim basis.
