Besides his thoughts on Eurovision, Martin was also keen to talk about his involvement writing the stories and songs for The Butterfly Children.
Over 30 years ago, he was a writer behind the 1990 musical, which was much-loved by the public when it toured British theatres, impressing many including one very famous audience member, Princess Margaret.
Now, Brotherhood Of Man has created a double album for the show’s 2022 comeback, with Martin writing 84 stories to be turned into book accompaniments.
Martin’s wife and bandmate Sandra sang on the lead song What Would Happen If Christmas Never Came?, with an episode already available to view online.
The plot features a gang of moths controlled by a malevolent leader whose ambition is to sabotage Christmas for the innocently happy Butterfly Children, throwing their presents into a secret location in the woods and destroying their festive tree.
“They’re too pretty, they’re too good, they look after everything, they’re environmentally friendly – so the moths don’t like them,” he reveals.
Martin claims the story is most suited to children aged between two and six but also adds that he knows a nine-year-old who “loved it to death” and has been playing it on repeat.
Meanwhile, the star, who is delighted at the frequent comparisons with Abba, promises that future Brotherhood of Man concerts will definitely include his Eurovision hit Save Your Kisses For Me.
“We couldn’t leave the stage without playing that – they’d hang us from the rafters!” he joked.
