The Milwaukee Bucks head coach position opened after the Miami Heat eliminated them in the Eastern Conference first-round series.
The job is very attractive with a talented roster that includes former MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, 28, in the prime of his career. And a strong supporting cast like Jrue Holiday and Khris Middleton.
The Bucks’ decision-makers have begun interviews for the job, starting with Houston’s head coach Kevin Sampson, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Sampson, 67, has experience coaching at the NBA level, including with the Bucks’ organization.
“Sampson, the first known high-profile college coach to meet with Milwaukee about the vacancy, spent six seasons in the NBA as an assistant coach — including three with the Bucks — before returning to college basketball in 2014 and constructing a national championship contender at Houston.
“Sampson has history and a relationship with Bucks general manager Jon Horst, who was a member of the front office when Sampson worked on Scott Skiles’ coaching staff between 2008 and 2011.”
During his nine seasons as the Cougars head coach, Sampson has compiled a near 69 winning percentage.
