Bugatti Chiron Profilée is the most expensive new car ever auctioned

The one-of-a-kind sells for record US$10.7 million at RM Sotheby’s auction

It’s another day, another record for Bugatti. The marque carmaker has just auctioned its one-of-one Chiron Profilée hypercar in Paris for a staggering €9,792,500 (about US$10.7 million, current conversion as of this writing), excluding VAT. That is enough to make this unique Chiron variant the most expensive new car ever sold at an auction.

There was always going to be a bidding war for the Chiron Profilée, as it takes the concept of Chiron exclusivity to a whole new level.

For one, it is the first and only Chiron Profilée to be built. Bugatti originally intended to put the model into very limited production, slotting in between the Chiron Sport and the Chiron Pur Sport. However, after filling all the Chiron build spots, the company took a different approach and decided to push through with the project being a one-off release of the Chiron Profilée.

It will also be the last brand-new Bugatti with the formidable W16 engine and the final purely gas-powered model from the brand, making it even more special. The 8.0-litre quad-turbocharged powerplant cranks out about 1,478 hp. That’s enough grunt to get the two-ton Chiron Profilée to 100 km/h in just 2.3 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 380 km/h.

Design-wise, the Chiron Profilée boasts a redesigned front splitter and larger air intakes. However, the biggest exterior highlight is the sweeping fixed tail at the rear. It increases downforce over the rear axle, enhancing the car’s stability at top speeds. The unique wing design also uses negative pressure to help suck hot air out of the engine compartment. The exterior looks are finished off with a model-exclusive Argent Atlantique colour. The car’s interior is laid out with over 8,200 feet of leather strips, creating a woven leather finish that’s never been attempted for the Chiron.

The record-breaking Chrion Profilée joins the rank of other elite Bugatti models like the La Voiture Noire, another one-off Bugatti special that was sold before it was even publicly unveiled.
