Western Bulldogs defender Taylor Duryea has sustained a neck injury and will take no further part in the AFL practice match against North Melbourne.

Duryea was hurt during the opening stages of Saturday’s contest at Ikon Park when he was under the weight of a tackle from Kangaroos co-captain Jy Simpkin.

The 31-year-old was taken to the change room after the incident as play carried on through the first quarter.

Duryea was later put in a neck brace by Bulldogs medical staff as a precaution and taken to hospital for scans.

The Bulldogs also lost Ed Richards to a corked thigh during the first quarter.

Duryea, who has played 172 games, was a two-times premiership player at Hawthorn before joining the Bulldogs at the end of 2018.
