The Chicago Bulls are bringing back Nikola Vucevic.
Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the center’s agents confirmed that he signed a three-year, $60 million extension to stay with the team. The deal isn’t receiving positive reviews on Twitter.
“Vucevic is an incredibly talented player who is unfortunately not very good at what you want from a center in today’s league,” Hoop Magazine’s Josh Eberley wrote. “Bulls not built to cover for him either.”

“Don’t really understand this at all for the Bulls,” Beyond the Data said. “Slow-footed, defensive liability bigs just do not translate to winning in the playoffs, and the Bulls aren’t in the position to win a playoff series in the next three years anyways.”

Feels like the Bulls are stuck in play-in… https://t.co/MccSaVqNOq

“I’m certainly not surprised by this but I really don’t like how the Bulls are run,” Matt Eurich of CBS Sports wrote.

Playing all 82 games last season, Vucevic averaged 17.6 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. However, his skill set doesn’t mesh well with a quicker style of NBA play that requires bigs to spread the court and protect the rim.
Fans also aren’t crazy about the Bulls extending a center who turns 33 before the 2023-24 season following a 40-42 campaign. Vucevic is a solid player who may merely maintain the status quo as a play-in contender.
Chicago has made the playoffs once in the last six seasons and hasn’t advanced past the first round since 2015. General manager Marc Eversley may need to eventually consider a teardown if the Bulls can’t escape mediocrity.
