C2E2 ‘22: INFERNO GIRL RED coming to Image Comics in 2023

C2E2 ‘22: INFERNO GIRL RED coming to Image Comics in 2023

Image Comics’s Massiveverse is about to grow even larger. During Friday’s Into the Massiveverse panel at C2E2 2022, writer Mat Groom announced that Inferno Girl Red, the graphic novel created by Groom, artist Erica D’Urso, colorist Igor Monti, and letterer Becca Carey, will get a release from Image Comics in early 2023.

Inferno Girl Red

During the panel, Groom told attendees that the full Inferno Girl Red hardcover graphic novel, which was created thanks to a successfully funded Kickstarter that completed in May of 2021, will ship to the campaign’s backers in January of next year. That same month, Image Comics will release the first issue of the Inferno Girl Red miniseries, a three-issue run of oversized issues that will present the full graphic novel for non-Kickstarter backers. Image will also release a softcover version of the graphic novel in July of 2023.

Here’s how Groom described Inferno Girl Red at the time of the Kickstarter’s launch:

We all need something to believe in.  Especially Cássia Costa.

An ancient cult and their army of demons have stolen Cássia’s home, Apex City.  When a magical dragon bracelet rockets into her life and affixes itself to her arm, Cássia’s the only person equipped to stop the cult from offering the entire city to their dark lord.

There’s just one catch…

The magical bracelet is powered by belief, and Cássia — an intensely pragmatic, rational girl – doesn’t have much to spare. She’ll have to find something to kindle her faith, though, and fast —because she has a secret legacy to live up to. Because her mother’s life is on the line. And because Apex City needs Inferno Girl Red.

A promo for the Inferno Girl Red Kickstarter ran in the back of Radiant Black #1.

When the Kickstarter launched, Inferno Girl Red’s connection to what is now known as the Massiveverse – the Image Comics-published shared superhero universe spinning out of the Kyle Higgins-written Radiant Black series and heavily inspired by Japanese tokusatsu series – wasn’t immediately clear. The Supermassive one-shot from Image earlier this year, which was written by Higgins, Groom, and Ryan Parrott and illustrated by Francesco Manna and Monti, featured Inferno Girl Red’s first comics appearance. No plans have yet been announced for what’s to come for the character following the release of the graphic novel, but it’s a sure bet there’s more in store for her.

Look for Inferno Girl Red #1 (of 3) to arrive from Image Comics in January 2023.
