Writing up news about the C9 Chevrolet Corvette scheduled to arrive in 2028 as a 2029-model-year car so soon after learning about the 2024 E-Ray feels a bit like writing next year’s holiday wish list the day after Christmas. But, hey, it’s never too early for a good thing, right?

According to multiple unnamed sources who spoke with GM Authority, the ninth-generation ‘Vette will be released nine years after the eighth generation was introduced. It will allegedly ride on an updated version of the GM Y2 platform built at the GM Bowling Green, Kentucky plant, and not the platform we expect will be used by the rumoured electric four-door coupe and SUV expected to join the Corvette family in 2025.

And this checks out, because the C9 is also expected to (still) have a gas engine — though we’ll fully expect it to be electrified with some sort of hybrid system — which is a feature that will be banned from new vehicle sales in California some six years after it debuts.

We’ll keep you posted as the story develops and the rumours solidify, but expect to hear more Corvette news in the coming months. GM isn’t done with the C8 yet, and it reportedly has designs on ZR1 and Zora variants.
