Cadillac’s new XT4-sized EV spied alongside Honda Prologue

Cadillac’s new XT4-sized EV spied alongside Honda Prologue

This model will likely sit at Caddy’s entry point

The luxury maker from Detroit is on its way to realizing its goal of being the purveyor of only all-electric vehicles before the calendar swings into the next decade. The new Cadillac Lyriq crossover is making its way into customer hands, the uber-luxurious Celestiq is on the horizon, and the Escalade IQ was announced earlier this year ahead of an August 9 debut.

Those bucks-deluxe models are all well and good, but the brand also needs at least a couple of volume sellers to keep the factories humming. Our spies have nabbed what seems to be a Cadillac EV, sized roughly like the XT4, a model which currently serves as a stepping stone into the brand and through the first few months of 2023 was Cadillac’s best-selling model in Canada.

Caught napping in Colorado, the camouflaged vehicle shown here (Empiriq?) is definitely not as lengthy — if nearly equal in height — as the Lyriq next to which it is parked. Vertical headlamps and DRLs plunge dramatically towards the pavement in a style made familiar by Cadillac styling choices in recent years. The test mule has small quarter windows on its front doors, along with door mounted side view mirrors, details which also appear on the new Chevrolet Blazer EV.

Elsewhere under the eye-crossing camo, we find a set of taillights which seem to not only reach up the D-pillar but also cut a swath into the rear bumper. Don’t read too much into the old-school round LED arrangement since there’s every chance in the world that illumination is just a placeholder during validation testing.

This car’s interior is draped with heavy camouflage, though we can see an infotainment screen which could portend a setup similar to the Lyriq. Also worth noting is the nub of a camera on the steering column, suggesting Super Cruise is in the offing.

And if you’re wondering why there are a brace of Honda models in the same row, recall the upcoming Honda Prologue is an EV from that brand using the bones of GM’s Ultium platform as its base. Seeing them together adds fuel to the fire that it will share more than just a battery pack with models from The General.

It is not unreasonable to expect a preview of this XT4-sized EV sometime later this year.
