Caledonia Gladiators win BBL Trophy after last-second drama in Glasgow

Caledonia Gladiators have celebrated winning their first silverware in two decades, lifting the BBL Trophy after a thrilling final at the Emirates Arena.

The Gladiators won 73-70 after David Sloane scored in the final second of the game with a sell-out 6,000 crowd looking on.

That sealed a first trophy since the team, formerly known as Glasgow Rocks, won the BBL Play-offs in 2002/03.

Gareth Murray, Caledonia Gladiators head coach, said: “Winning the BBL Trophy Final is a momentous occasion, not only for our players, but for the wider sport in Scotland.

“This was an incredible game which finished in dramatic fashion. The players have really done us proud out there, and it’s great for the fans that we’ve been able to bring success to the club this season.

“It’s a hugely exciting time for the club – with the new stadium project on the way – and we hope that this is just the start of an exciting chapter for the Caledonia Gladiators.”

Caledonia Gladiators owner Steve Timoney added: “This is a really special moment for everyone connected with the club.

“It’s been a hugely memorable day, and one that I hope all our supporters have enjoyed.

“It’s been a great few weeks for the Gladiators and we can’t wait to build on this and bring more success to the club in the coming years.”

The ambitious club recently announced plans for a new £20m state-of-the-art purpose built 6,000-seater arena and five-court practice and community facility in East Kilbride, which is due to be completed in 2026.
