According to KTLA, the poor animal was taken to a hospital on Monday morning after it was found injured in the Desert Springs area.
Riverside County Animal Services began investigating after a woman called the Sheriff’s Department to say she’d been awoken by a “screaming dog.”
Authorities arrived to take the animal to the Coachella Valley Animal Campus for treatment where it was sedated and had the arrow — which missed any major arteries — removed.
“For someone to willfully shoot this poor pup with an arrow is disgusting,” Riverside County Animal Services director Erin Gettis said in a news release.
“We are shocked and we hope someone can provide us any information as to who did this.”
Gettis says animal services will continue to treat the dog and then work on finding her a newf forever home.
The puppy incident comes less than a month after a burro died after it was shot with an arrow in Riverside County.
