Cameron Norrie’s Wimbledon journey ends with defeat to Novak Djokovic

Cameron Norrie has lost out to Novak Djokovic in his Wimbledon semi-final, losing to the experienced Serbian on Centre Court.

Norrie took the first set and seemed to have his opponent rattled but Djokovic took grip of the match to win 2-6 6-3 6-2 6-4.

The Scot had never previously been past the third round of a grand slam event but had found his form in SW19 over the past two weeks, making his way past increasingly tough competition before coming up against one of the best to have played the sport.

Rafael Nadal’s injury withdrawal from the other semi-final meant both players knew that Nick Kyrgios lay in wait in Sunday’s final and from the off, Norrie looked to be the player with the greater appetite to get there.

He broke three times to take the first set, with his opponent looking uncharacteristically out of sorts.

Djokovic quickly found his stride though, taking the next three sets to set up a chance for a fourth consecutive Wimbledon title, and a seventh in total.

“Cameron didn’t have much to lose, he was playing the tournament of his life,” Djokovic said after the match.

“He’s a great player and I have a lot of respect for him.

“Cameron was dominating the play and I got lucky to break his serve in the second set.

“He gifted me a game and from then I think momentum shifted.”
