Candace Owens Calls Minnie Mouse Pantsuit An Attempt To ‘Destroy Fabrics Of Our Society’

Recently, Fox News seems to have acquired a keen interest in the physical attributes of female cartoon characters.

Fresh off the heels of Tucker Carlson’s surreal rant against the Green M&M trading her knee-high boots for trainers, comes Candace Owens, triggered by a new pantsuit for Disney’s Minnie Mouse.

It should be noted that the iconic mouse hasn’t actually been redesigned – Minnie is set to temporarily sport a new pantsuit, designed by Stella McCartney, which will be worn by a performer in a Minnie Mouse costume at Walt Disney Studios Park, in recognition of Women’s History Month.

Not a big deal – Minnie experiments with new clothes all the time. After all, new outfits equal more merchandising opportunities for Disney.

Owens, however, framed the temporary outfit change as part of an insidious plot to erode American society and distract consumers from the rising cost of living, despite the fact that Minnie’s Hillary Clinton-esque pantsuit wasn’t exactly being pushed on the public as some kind of indoctrination campaign – it’s just something Disneyland visitors will see at some point.

Speaking to Jesse Watters while on his show, Jesse Watters Prime Time, Owens stated:

“This is why people don’t take these people seriously, they are taking all of these things, that nobody was offended by and feel they have to get rid of them and destroy them. Because they are bored, they are absolutely bored, they are trying to destroy fabrics of our society pretending that there’s issues. This is so everybody looks over here, look at Minnie Mouse, don’t look at inflation, Jesse. Look at Minnie Mouse, the world is going forward because we have got her in a pantsuit.”

Unlike Carlson, who was alarmingly upset by the desexualization of a sentient candy, Owens doesn’t even seem to understand why she’s angry – Minnie Mouse has never been a sex icon? No shade to Minnie, but she’s not exactly Lola Bunny; her polka dot dress certainly wasn’t offending (or arousing) anyone, and the pantsuit doesn’t seem like an attempt to cover those rubber hose legs. Sometimes, a pantsuit is just a pantsuit.

Owens’ rant makes even less sense when one considers her furious reaction to Cardi B’s provocative dance routine at the 2021 Grammy Awards. Following Cardi’s performance, Owens said to Tucker Carlson:

“This seems like an attack on American values, American traditions, and you’re actually actively trying to make children aspire to things that are grotesque … This is not the patriarchy that’s keeping young woman down. It’s displays like this—displays of blatant nudity and sexualization—that is keeping women down in this society.”

There’s an amusing contradiction here, as both Carlson and Owens seem to actively root for the unnecessary sexualization of female cartoon characters (featured in animations that are explicitly aimed at children), but condemn the display of female sexuality from a rap artist with an adult audience.

It’s difficult to tell which “American values” are being threatened, or even to define the ideology driving the rage; perhaps the rage itself is the point, as the reason seems completely irrelevant.
