Catering issue leads to food shortage, leaves cricketers hungry

The Elite Group ‘B’ opening matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy played at Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala on Wednesday were marred by catering issues.

It is learnt that a miscommunication between the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) and the caterers led to a food shortage for the players. Several players and team officials confirmed to mid-day that the food served at the three match venues was too less for the six teams and officials. Defending champs Mumbai were among those teams. “When players came in during the innings break, either there was very little or no food left. It was shocking.

Unfortunately, the teams could not even order outside food due to the COVID-19 protocols. The players finally managed to feed themselves only when they returned to their respective team hotels,” a team source said. It is learnt that the KCA had informed the caterer to prepare food for at least 100-120 people at each of the three match venues.

However, the caterer is believed to have understood that the food had to be provided for 100 people in totality across all venues.
