Atalanta 2-2 Manchester United: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer review
It’s been a settling week for Manchester United and their under-pressure manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
An impressive 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday was followed by a 2-2 draw with Atalanta in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Cristiano Ronaldo was back among the goals too, netting three times – including a stoppage-time equaliser against Atalanta – across the two matches.
Another huge game looms large on the horizon now, with Manchester City making the trip to Old Trafford for a vital derby match; United’s last outing on home soil was the humbling 5-0 loss to Liverpool.
Here is the latest United news ahead of the contest, including intriguing developments on Edinson Cavani’s future.

Cavani’s exit plea to Boca
After Cristiano Ronaldo arrived at United in the summer there was a lot of speculation about Cavani’s future.
Not only did the iconic forward take Cavani’s spot in the team, he took his squad number too. But according to Boca Juniors club chief Juan Roman Riquelme, the former Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli striker was looking for a move well before Ronaldo arrived.
“In January, Cavani called me saying that he wanted to come because he was playing little there,” Riquelme told TNT Sports.
“I’ve been speaking with him for a long time and he called me in January to come because he wasn’t playing there. I remember we talked one day and the next day he came in and scored two goals in the last minutes. He made a comeback. From then on he started scoring goals in all the games and they renewed with him.”

Guardiola to study United ‘machine’
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said he will study Manchester United and their “goalscoring machine” Ronaldo prior to the derby meeting at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The two sides meet in a crucial Premier League encounter at the Theatre of Dreams. City are under some pressure themselves, as they were defeated 2-0 by Crystal Palace last time out domestically and will be aware they can’t lose too much ground on the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea in the title race.
They did secure an emphatic 4-1 win over Club Brugge on Wednesday in the Champions League though, after which Guardiola spoke highly of Ronaldo.
“I didn’t see the United match [against Atalanta],” said Guardiola. “I’m going to analyse and to see what they are so I know how good they are. We saw it last season. They have one of the best players in history, a guy who can be a scoring machine.”
