Division III

No. 3 Santa Teresa 8, No. 7  The King’s Academy 6

The softball team may not have endured a 14-inning marathon like the baseball team did the day before, but its game on Thursday still provided plenty of excitement.

When Santa Teresa led 7-0 to start the fifth inning, the Saints appeared to have a trip to the Division III title game vs. Everett Alvarez locked up.

But the last three innings were anything but comfortable for the San Jose school, the third-seeded Saints escaping a King’s Academy rally that saw the Knights score six runs and come within one hit of taking the lead.

The King’s Academy had the bases loaded with two outs in the top of the seventh, but Santa Teresa induced a popup to end the game.

Santa Teresa first baseman Kierstin Wick was 2 for 3 with three RBIs, and pitcher Mariah Avalos was 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Left fielder Keira Leong was 2 for 2 with two RBIs.

Shortstop Mia Bennette led TKA’s near-comeback, driving in three runs and scoring one too. Freshman second baseman Chaeli Yamakoshi was 2 for 4 with a walk.

TKA dropped to 16-8, and Santa Teresa improved to 14-14 and will play Everett Alvarez on Saturday.

Division I

No. 3 Westmont 4, No. 2 Sobrato 0

Westmont rode an impressive Elise Roy performance to a berth in the CCS Division I title game. Roy pitched a complete game, allowing five hits, walking none and striking out eight at Sobrato.

The Bulldogs kept the Westmont offense off the board until the top of the fourth, when Bella Andrade lined a single into right field, driving in Brianna Chambers-Lee.

The Campbell school really took control in the fifth inning, when a Caitlin Sredanovich bunt, assisted by an error, allowed Alexis Gianatasio to score. A couple batters later, Chambers-Lee drove in two runs on a hard-hit ball into right field.

Lauren Grifall was 2 for 3 for Sobrato, and freshman teammate Jordan Bouton hit a triple. The Bulldogs finished their season 19-4.

Westmont, now 20-8, will play No. 1 Notre Dame-Salinas on Saturday.
