Celebrate Mardi Gras 2022 with karaoke at a Bay Area winery

For whatever reason, the Bay Area is culturally connected with Louisiana. You can groove out here to Meters drummer Ziggy Modeliste, yell at the Saints at New Orleans-themed bars – heck, even the bakeries make king cake.

So you know we’re going to do Mardi Gras right, or at least as right as it can be during a pandemic. Redwood City is staging a Carnival on Feb. 19 with hurricanes, jambalaya, a second-line parade and bands playing through the night. Berkeley’s holding a Mardi Gras Mambo on Feb. 17 with Nathan & the Zydeco Cha-Chas and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, who will jam together at another Mambo in Livermore on Feb. 20.

One of the more unusual offerings this year is a “Mardi Gras Karaoke Night” in Byron. Staged at the verdant Campos Family Vineyards – though for this event, no children are allowed – the shindig invites revelers to sample Creole delights like “Oysters Oh La La” and belt out pickled renditions of “When the Saints Go Marching In,” either solo or in groups. There’s also a costume contest with prizes, so start making your beaded headpieces now.

Details: Mardi Gras Karaoke Night, $10 (food is extra), 6-9:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26, at Campos Family Vineyards, 3501 Byer Rd., Byron; tickets on Eventbrite.
