Some celebrities have experienced home break-ins throughout their time in the spotlight. Billie Eilish, for one, sought out a restraining order against a man who allegedly broke into her family’s home in January 2023, where mom Maggie Baird and dad Patrick O’Connell live.
“Regrettably, this is not the first time an unknown individual has attempted to contact my family and me specifically by stalking us outside my family’s home and by making professions of love to and threats of violence against me,” Billie shared in a statement obtained by the Los Angeles Times. “However, each such occasion, including the present one, causes me substantial anxiety, fear, and emotional distress over my personal safety and that of my father, mother, and brother.”
TMZ reported that the “Bad Guy” songstress was granted a temporary restraining order ahead of a February 2023 hearing, following the fan’s alleged multiple appearances at her California home that started in December 2022. The case is currently pending.
While the “Therefore I Am” singer has her own home — in her song “NDA,” she sings, “I bought a secret house when I was 17″ — Billie has opened up about staying at her parents’ house.
“My relationship with my home has not changed, just like with my parents and my brother,” the Grammy-award winning musician told V Magazine in March 2022. “I think it’s a bit jarring for some people who grew up with me or haven’t seen me in a long time … [they] come over to see us and see that it’s exactly the same. It’s as if you walked in here and it’s 2003.”
Similarly, Taylor Swift has experienced more than one attempted break-in throughout her long-term stint in the spotlight. During an interview with Elle published in March 2019, the “Look What You Made Me Do” singer claimed that “every home address I’ve ever had” has been shared online.
“You get enough stalkers trying to break into your house and you kind of start prepping for bad things,” she shared at the time. “Every day I try to remind myself of the good in the world, the love I’ve witnessed and the faith I have in humanity. We have to live bravely in order to truly feel alive, and that means not being ruled by our greatest fears.”
