It’s safe to say James Acaster and Ed Gamble did not dress for the occasion as they went on the run in Celebrity Hunted.

The Channel 4 show returned on Tuesday for a Stand Up To Cancer special series which sees multiple celebrities go on the run from the ‘authorities’, aiming to make it to a special extradition area where they will be declared safe.

The comedy duo have so far evaded the clutches of the Hunters and, well, taken it in their stride, even finding time to dine out for a nice meal complete with cocktails.

However, in the latest instalment of the gripping docuseries, James, 38, and Ed, 37, did see their luck slightly run out as they were forced to wear some hilarious costumes all in the name of disguise.

Setting off on the hunt for a lift to The Speakmans house, the couple they befriended while in ‘prison’, the Off Menu hosts hit up a local church.

The thinking behind approaching the vicar was, as James noted, because they’re ‘contractually obliged to help anyone who asks.’

‘We’re on the run,’ Ed explained to the vicar after they entered the church. ‘We’re going to a specific address in Littleborough but we think the Hunters are watching the address.’

‘So if we’re going to get into that house,’ James continued. ‘We need to disguise ourselves.’

The comedian suggested: ‘If there’s like a plumber’s van or an electricians van?’

However, a member of the church had another idea and instead offered up fancy dress outfits.

The vicar explained the church runs a ‘big youth theatre’ so there were plenty of costumes up for grabs.

As they left the church, Ed, dressed up as a tiger, commented: ‘It’s genuinely worked out perfectly’, while James, wearing a fluffy white cat onesie, remarked: ‘We’ve fallen on our feet again.’

The pair then joked they would rather be caught naked then int he costumes(Picture: Channel 4)

Sat in the back of the car as the reverend drove them to their next destination, James said if they were to get caught dressed in their costumes it would be the ‘least dignified’ way ever.

‘Or ever,’ Ed added. ‘This is worse than being caught naked.’

The pair then joked if their paths were to cross with the Hunters they would immediately strip off.

Viewers flocked to Twitter to share their thoughts on the boys’ new looks, with one writing: ‘James and Ed in those costumes are making me laugh so hard #CelebrityHunted.’

‘Am I missing something or am I going to have to question the fact that a reverend owns those costumes? #celebrityhunted,’ a bemused fan asked, while another wrote simply: ‘These costumes are making me scream!!! #celebrityhunted.’

A fourth penned: ‘As a kid I always fancied doing youth theatre, glad I didn’t now if that’s the costume choice#celebrityhunted.’
