University of Colorado Regent Chance Hill resigned from the Board of Regents effective immediately Friday morning to “pursue new professional opportunities outside the state,” the system announced.

Hill, a Colorado Springs Republican, won the board’s 5th Congressional District seat in 2018 and was in his third year of a six-year term as regent.

Under Colorado law, Gov. Jared Polis will appoint someone to fill the vacancy on the Board of Regents.

In a statement, Hill said he is moving out of state “to secure an employment opportunity that will much better enable me to provide for my family in a context of greater job stability and a lower cost of living.”

“The recent passing of my mother (in August) and my father (in September) has brought the importance of putting family first into even sharper relief for me,” he continued.

In the university announcement, Regents Jack Kroll and Sue Sharkey praised Hill’s contributions to the board.

“Regent Hill’s leadership and integrity have been an asset to this Board of Regents, and he will be missed,” Sharkey said.
