Kobe Bryan was so good at basketball and so knowledgeable about the game that many wonder if he could have ever been a member of the “Inside The NBA” crew. But Charles Barkley doesn’t believe it would have been as good a match as others do.

Appearing on the New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce podcast, Barkley said that Kobe’s personality may not have been built to “have a lot of fun” the way the other members of the panel do. He believes that Kobe was a “real serious guy” and might not have meshed well with other members who don’t want to be as serious for an entire day of work.

“I don’t think his personality, I don’t think he was built to have a lot of fun,” Barkley said. “I don’t know if he was built to have fun. He was a great person, I liked him, rest in peace. But he was a real serious guy. And the problem you have, if you’re gonna do our show, I don’t think people understand, we’re on from seven to two in the morning. Nobody wants to be damn serious from seven to two in the morning.”

However, Barkley said that Kobe still received an offer from the show higher-ups, but ultimately didn’t join over Kobe’s unwillingness to do as many media spots as they required of him.

As upsetting as it may be to hear anything negative about the NBA legend, Barkley does have a bit of a point. Being all-business, all the time was one of Kobe’s most noteworthy traits during his NBA career (and an alleged cause of friction between him and Shaq with the Lakers).

Bryant found tons of success on the court and off the court, but didn’t really do a lot of shows before his tragic death in 2020.

Even so, it probably would’ve been fun to see Bryant remain the serious one amid all of the shenanigans that the other “Inside The NBA” cast members get up to.
