Zion Williamson is a two-time All-Star and the franchise player for the New Orleans Pelicans, but his career has been defined by the amount of time he’s spent off the court.
In four NBA seasons, Williamson has only played in 114 games. That’s a little less than a season and a half, and many NBA fans have expressed concern about his lack of playing time.
Some analysts have been critical of Williamson, including TNT’s Charles Barkley. The outspoken Barkley offered some advice to Williamson on what he can do to improve his career, and he says it comes from experience.
"I've been in your shoes… All you have to do is get in shape."

“Zion Williamson. Yo man, I don’t know you, we’ve never met, but somebody’s gotta tell you ‘yo man, you gotta get in shape,'” Barkley said. “You’re going to keep getting hurt if you’re out of shape.”
Barkley said fellow NBA legend Moses Malone advised him to get in shape during his time in Philadelphia, and it resulted in Barkley losing 50 pounds.
“I’ve been in your shoes, being very talented, being overweight,” Barkley said. “And like I say, I thank God every day for Moses. Rest in peace.”
Barkley said that his initial $2 million contract was enough to motivate him to get into shape, and that he thinks Williamson should do the same with much more money on the line.
“You’re gonna make another $500 million,” Barkley said. “All you gotta do is get in shape.”
